MANGA: CORRUPTING THE YOUTH OF AMERICA???

The article that I read off of Google News is titled, "U.S. Manga Obscenity Conviction Roils Comics World." This article is talking about how, "The 39-year-old office worker was charged under the 2003 Protect Act [for posessing illegal art within the Manga], which outlaws cartoons, drawings, sculptures or paintings depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, and which lack “serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value.” It goes on to talk about how some comic book fans are stunned and frightened by this conviction.

I thought that this article was interesting because I DO read Manga and I wasn't aware that things of this obscene nature were out there in the comic book world. The Manga that I tend to read is classified as Shounen and is usually just fantasy based like a "Lord of the Rings" sort of thing. I do believe in artistic freedom but not at the expense of the safety of children. I think that GOOD Manga can be fun and take you on adventures while remaining positive.

The article that I read off of Google News was titled, "Turtles are marching to their nesting grounds." The reason that I read this news snippet is because I recently purchased a tortise and I have been very interested in everything involving animals like it. The main point of the article is to explain that, "Each spring into early summer turtles can be seen crossing roads and highways all over the country." The article goes on to talk about that these turtles are on their way to their nesting grounds. If you happen to see a turtle struggling or stuck in some debris, you should realign them and help them along their way towards their destination.

The reason that I think that this article was interesting was because of the distance that the turtle can travel just so that they can get to their preferred nesting site. I think that the biological power to bear their young is pretty strong. Seeing that they brave urban areas and potential places for predators to hide just so that they can lay their eggs is amazing to me. I hope that more people start to learn about these animals so that we never are in danger losing any more of the turtle species.

The article that I read online is called, "Minn. boy who resisted chemo now to receive it," from Google News. This article is about the young Minnesota boy and his family that was trying to evade Minnesota authorities so that he wouldn't have to undergo chemotherapy for the tumor in his chest. The thing that I have been sort of confused on is WHY the family has been avoiding this so much. I know that the news and different articles have been talking about the fact that it has something to do with their religion as to why he didn't get treatment right away. But the thing that baffles me is why parents would want to deny their kid help when there is a 95% recovery rate for people with Hodgekins disease when they undergo chemotherapy and other treatments.

I am really glad though, that the boy will finally get this treatment that he needs. I think that at his young age, it's important to make some decisions that he might not agree with, because they could be in his best interest. Secondly, I would like to see more on whether or not the parents are being charged with child neglect.

The Wild Sheep Chase:

Right now, I really like the book because of a few things. Firstly, I think that there is a real sweet meloncholy taste to the writing. I think that his choice of words and the way that he phrases things really is interesting and unique. Secondly, I think that it is interesting that the main character has never mentioned that he has a name. This is kinda cool because of the fact that it allows the reader to place themselves in the story and dive deeper into the plot line.

I would really only reccommend this book to certain types of people. I think that "down to earth" people would really enjoy this book. The pace of the book isn't particularly quick and it requires you to sit down with a hefty amount of concentration and maybe a couple of cups of tea.

Post number 2

My book "A Wild Sheep Chase" has now only just gotten to the main plot. Only recently had the past experiences that have been told about the main character have caught up with the present. This is around the time when a large coroparation has just confronted the main characters to find who had posted this strange postcard with this picture of a bunch of sheep however, there is one certain sheep that has a lighter color wool and a star shaped birthmark. Noticing this my character takes a look around the room once more to find that the large coroporation that had requested his addience carrys the emblem of a sheep with a star on it. for some reason this sheep happens to be the "boss's" hallucionation and is definately not a coincidence... anyways this is how far I've gotten... wierd storyline

A Wild Sheep Chase. (Whats going on?!)

Lately I been taken into this novel this way and that, going to the past of my character as well as in the glimpse of the future! Apparently theres this buddy named "The Rat" whose an awesome guy and all but had sent letters only to My Character, whose name I still have yet to find out. (In fact I doubt that you even learn his name at all!) As "My Character" remembers how he had come to this sheep picture with a Star shaped birth mark on him, he goes into detail about this old friend named "The Rat". obviously his name is meant to make you believe something is up with this guy, and judging how he refuses to talk to anyone but him is very suspicious indeed.

After reading the first introductory chapters I had been able to take in the setting in almost completely. Which is both in Japan and the life a young adult business man who has the normal urges of any other human being, that being alchohol smokes and sex every now and then. I suppose the beginning of the story is awfully long but I'm glad this author did that, I can really feel for the main character. Now that I think of it It nevger really gave a name to the speaker, I just only got to know him as he called himself, Me or I and myself. anyways It's definately a that's caught my attention, which I have to say is a little rare because usually the beggnings of such books like these are dry and boring. I can say that this one isz different.

A wild sheep chase (Why I want to read it)

This is a novel that I've been keeping my eye out for a long time. I first saw it when my friend in 7th grade had been reading it and I decided to read the back of it. the mysterious plot drew me into it and I got extremely interested. I had asked to read this book after my friend had finished reading it but I never got that book. I enjoy the read of a mystery every now and then. The book "A Wild Sheep Chase" is told completely in first person. I enjoy these types of books because you're allowed to see what the person is thinking, the writer obviously sets up the words in a way to make your brain tingle in the same way as the person telling the story. So instead of thinking when you read these books (unless you misread something) you more so just live the book and let your thoughts be pulled by the plot.

upon seeing my next blog assignment I when ahead and search engined women of sparta, because I remembered there was something different about them.

Spartan women were taught reading and writing, very much unlike the normacy of the times, such as Athens women. They were also expected to protect themselves, which was somewhat interesting, as sparta, the war society, was based on men soldiers going to battle and conqueroring. Women of Sparta were extremely free of anything, they were given the ok to perform sports even topless with other men, and they were never seen as anything else but a competitor. really the only thing Spartan women were expected to do was to stayt healthy and to produce strong children. But of course spartan women were not only for marriage and procreation. namely they could own and control their property. most of the time they were expected to protect and take in a husband's land if they had been gone for too long. they will go and guard it until the man of the household returns.
